Coordinating Construction and Campus Life
Ranked as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the United States, Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia has chosen Emery & Associates to complete more than 100 projects on their campus since 2000. When the College needed to renovate seven different buildings over a period of 13 months, they selected Emery & Associates for their wide range of renovation expertise and their ability to complete projects on a flexible schedule, without disruptions to campus life.
Since the majority of these renovations involved complete rebuilding of bathrooms, work was scheduled over winter vacation and during the brief intervals between summer conferences. Despite finding extensive water damage to the structural framing in one residence hall, the Emery team completed full demolition and rebuilding of three full bathrooms in a two-week period by working 16 hours per day, seven days a week!
Another challenge was the replacement of 21 exterior doors in two occupied dormitories without compromising security for the buildings or their residents. Each door was removed one at a time and a new custom-made replacement installed with matching hardware and finish. While replacing the pool deck and renovating the Athletic Building locker room, the Emery team cleaned the existing tile to match the aesthetics of adjoining renovated areas. At Rebekah Scott Hall, the Emery team rebuilt damaged foundation and 30% of an existing ballroom’s floor systems without disrupting the college’s Development and Admissions offices, housed on the same floor, during their busiest time of the year.
